First neither Gore nor Kerry had ANY desire to "take away your guns". If anything at the rate Bush is going with his anti-terrorism crap HE'LL be the one that's a threat to gun owners. All in the name of "protecting the country" of course
Now let's say they did for arguments sake. Now can they just say "ban all guns" and then it's law? Ummm no we don't work that way. No see the President doesn't make the laws the CONGRESS does. He can either sign then into law or veto them. So now even if they wants a "ban all guns" bill to pass what are the odds that a REPUBLICAN controlled House and a REPUBLICAN controlled Senate would pass such a bill? Hell it wouldn't even get out of committee. And even if it did somehow passed the REPUBLICAN controlled Supreme Court would strike it down.
Ask yourself did how many people( other than fellons ) loss the right to buy a gun durring Clinton's or Carter's time in office? Ummmm. ZERO.
