why do so many rappers rap over other peoples beats

and then release it as their own song?

    thats just so fucking uncreative

yea if you can make it sound better than the orginonal, go for it, but if yer just going to take the beat and rap over it with your own shit, lame.

Because they don't know how to play an instrument, so the music has to come from somewhere.

That's how rap was born. When rap started back in the day it was a DJ spinning a record and someone rapping over it. Most rappers rapped over a rock, disco, or soul record. Do you remember Run DMC rapping over Aerosmith? Sugar Hill Gang rapping over the disco hit "Good Times? It comes from taking something either old or "foreign" and making it familiar.

I'm sure this explanation is not what you want to hear or why you raised the question though, so carry on...

ok but why do they seem so proud of what they do? they dont do anything musically complex like play a guitar or piano.

their only talent is in their lyrics and vocals and perhaps they even mix/create/produce their own music.

I also hate the fact that they plug brand names left and right.

I guess they love getting free shit from corporation X for saying their business name in a song.

sometimes when u hear a song u react in certain ways.....one is this song is hot the artist did his thing...another is i like this beat and i can do as good as this artist....another could be damn this artist doesnt belong on this beat and im gonna kill it better....some ppl have incredible talent but if ur not heard of, u have to get respect by taking a well know beat and "making" it yours....

but if u wanna hear all original beats but a hot artist(reviews dont lie from ppl u dont kno) go here

If you can rhyme over a beat with any modicum of skill, then I encourage you to unplug from GFY, go to NYC, get yourself on a mixtape and go up against any well-known battle MC's -- whether they're rhyming over their own beats or someone elses.

I could never criticize someone for something that I can't do -- whether its playing a concerto or writing/freestyling a complex rap.

I agree with that. Most rap is very commercial and brand-centric

i'm not trying to hate on them. i'm saying mastering the guitar is an accomplishment while being able to rap to a beat is not that big of a feat.

I believe the majority of rappers hearts lie in money, not the music. Nelly's "Air Force Ones" song and Snoops "Holidae Inn" song are proof enough. and I wouldnt want to forget how many times they plug high end brands such as Lexus, Rolex, Mercedes, etc.

it seems to me as if they just bank off dropping names and rhyming. so sad.
mainstream rap and most of the other crap out there sucks.

Rappers rap over other rappers beats for mixtapes. If you checkout the 50 Cent/G-Unit mixtape library, you will find that these guys shit out a full lenght mixtape every fuckin week! Its a way for them to stay in the game and get at people they need to get at untill the next album comes out.

This isnt something new, its been happening for a long time and I dont see a problem with it unless they release it on an actual album.

O yea, I make good beats too.

No, I'm not trying to say that you're hating on them. What I'm saying is that you're failing to see the skill. As a guitarist, Eric Clapton/Keith Richards/Joe Perry/Slash has to move the complexity of what's in his head to his fingers. As a rapper, Nas/Common/Jay-Z/Mos-Def has to move an equally complex thought from his head to his mouth.

I also think that what you see as greed are just the machinations of the pop machine. Rap is the new pop(ular) music. So, of course, people are going to use their power as rappers to sell cars, soft drinks...whatever. Part of that has to do with availability, and part of it has to do with the way a person may have grown up. Of course, if you grew up in poverty and used something to come from nothing, you're going to tend to ride almost every opportunity you get placed in front of you. It's hard to turn down $1 mil for a Pepsi commercial or even $100000 for a little mention in a rhyme. The music biz is a hungry beast and it has no integrity. You grab what you can get while you can get it.
