The "levitation trick" that David Blaine does on the TV is a camera trick - the first shot is him doing a simple levitation trick (about an inch off the ground at most) to get the spectators to react, and then a second shot from a different angle (that doesn't have the spectators in frame) of him levitating several feet.
In the second shot he is suspended by wires... -

Position yourself so that the spectator(s) are behind you and to the left (at about 8 o'clock).
Place both feet together (it helps if you are wearing soft shoes that bend easily).
For dramatic effect, stretch your arms out to your sides. As you do so, tip forward slightly so that all your weight is on the balls of your feet.
While keeping the sole of your left foot parallel to the floor, raise yourself into the air on the ball of your right foot. Do this briefly, then drop back to the ground with both feet.
From the point of view of the spectator, your left foot has left the ground completely. They can see that the heel of your right foot has left the ground at the same rate as your left foot, and their brains assume that the entire right foot has also left the ground in the same way.
The vital things to remember when doing this trick is that the spectators must not be able to completely see your right foot, and don't stay up in the air for very long or it'll give them a chance to bend down and see underneath your feet.Comment
