Technically serving movies you should be able to get more bandwidth out of your box then serving pics.
The reason is, these files are large and consecutive so its very easy on the harddrive to grab and serve data, as compared to hundreds of little pics.
Chances are if you're seeing problems then your apache or OS is misconfigured
