Text versus Thumb TGP.. what are the pros and cons of both?
In the process of building my TGP (one I have now I threw together to give me an idea of what I want to do, but it obviously did not work), and would love to know what people think about going either text or thumb.
Link TGPs tend to have better conversions, because usually they are organized by categories.
Thumb TGPs attract more visitors, but conversions are lower, and bandwith bills are higher.

Other than that, no much more difference.
Is this proven? just curious? anyplace that you know of that has some reading on this subject?

Ok this makes sense. I asked because I am undecided with what type of a tgp to go with. I think this is time to do some testing of my own. Not that I do not beleive what you say but rather I would like to see this from my own perspective.
This is what I gathered as of now. It seems that If I do a text link tgp and use thumbs on the front page to link to the catagories it would be more like the thing to do. I am on it now!!
Like was pointed out right now with the unknown of the 2257 I would start up with text. IMO Text has a better conversion ratio with sponcers. Thumb TGPs are more blind to the surfer. IE when you click a text link you knw what you are getting where as on a thumbsite it is just 1 pic of 15. Bandwidth is ovlisouly going to be higher on a thumb tgp. The only advantage to a thumb site is it is easier to grow. Usually the CTR is very high.
Conversions are better with text links because mostly the only people that would click would be english speaking visitors.
With a thumb you can get even non-english speaking people to click on your site. People can see thumbs and don't need a specific language to know what they see.
Whats the point?
If they click chances are they'll be sent to a trade and you'll get an english speaking visitor from one of your trades.
Maybe you can even get a sale depending on your sponsor... if they got dialer access, special landing pages for international traffic, etc.

Good choice Thumbed links to the category pages and on those pages lists of galleries always worked well for me
The Thumb-based TGPs will use a lot more bandwidth in an effort to do the same as the text.
From the surfer's point of view, The text describes what they will see when they click. The thumb gets them exited to see the full pic, then when they click, they will sometimes see a gallery including the pic, sometimes not, and many times, they will be sent to a trade, which will likely be a whole new thumb TGP playing the same game.
As a webmaster, the thumb tgp seems more productive because of higher click-thoughs, but as a surfer, I wouldn't be in the mood to buy If I never saw more of the hot chick in the original thumb.
I just hit a thumb tgp, clicked on one of the teenie pics, and sure enough got traded to another thumb tgp full of fetish and some trannies. Tell me this is productive.
I'm leaning towards a hybrid "hub" site using a thumbs based TGP script (10-20 thumbs), but featuring only sponsor-provided FHGs, and other "in house" content that I can cite a 2257 for...
A text-based TGP will be open for webmaster submissions, and a top list for selected sites not coming through the trade script...
Having the best of all worlds helps mitigate some of the drawbacks of each approach, and should make for an increase in clickthroughs and conversions.
