if just about every business model in the US is being taken over large corporations, why then do the small companies still create the most jobs and has been for decades, and will not change any time soon.
large corporations ARE not taking over.Epic CashEpic Cash works for me

because they're inefficient allowing smaller companies to jump on new growth segments or hit certain segments better than the larger corporation.Originally posted by jimmyf

Back when I was a kid I remember going to the local corner/drug store owned by a local pharmacist. I'm sure it was much the same thing in every town in the 70s-80s.. Today try and find a local drug store that is not Eckerd drugs, Walgreen's or CVS.. let alone the major super stores that are even trying to put those chains out of business such as Target and Wal-mart.
That drastic change happened in the span of 20 years or so.. if left un regulated what will the next 20 years bring? In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment

it's already happening...all the same music is pushed on us..the same horrible movies (mostly rewrites of scripts from the 60's-70's)
Now the Carlyle group is getting in the biz it will be even more multi faceted..clothing...magazines..furnishing styles..cars...

Damn good read
I like Ted Turner. He may have that southern drawl and say "um" a lot, but he's a very smart man...Comment

Large corporations are taking over. The article is media focused and that's where the biggest example of this can be seen. Big companies are swallowing small ones faster than ever, which adds to this situation. The small companies sellout quickly because they can't grow any other way in today's scene. Not to mention the government isn't helping anything. It's a big clusterfuck.I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

I was about to say the same thing Ironhorse..... He is starting to get 'up there - and has mellowed some - but he is still opioniated & a smart business man.
He really makes you think! ( He certainly does not think that Bush is the right man for the job. )Comment

This is a popular canard thrown out to confuse folks such as yourself. Its true that small biz creates the most jobs, but the part they never tell you is that small biz also loses the most jobs as well. Small businesses are very volatile, many are started but the overwhelming majority fail. So you have huge numbers of jobs created, but also huge numbers of jobs lost, and it balances out. They always leave that part of the stats out though, and the majority of the population continue to fall for it.Originally posted by jimmyf

Justice Hugo Black, in a landmark media-ownership case in 1945, wrote: "The First Amendment rests on the assumption that the widest possible dissemination of information from diverse and antagonistic sources is essential to the welfare of the public."
