Paying retail is for schmucks.
You obviously missed my point of objection because the stereotype of "jewing" someone down and being a "cheap jew" must be so deeply entrenched in your mind as an obviously acceptable characterization that you would think I called you out on the haggling part of that statement.

What kind of person am I? Would be great to know from someone I have never met in person and only knows me from a few posts on a message board.

You come across like a jewish Uncle Tom. Perpetuating that stereotype does nobody any good and it in fact makes my blood boil. I don't enjoy people thinking "dirty jew" when I tell them my religion because you think it's a fun innocent connotation to keep alive. Its origins and meaning and perception it leaves people with are very ugly.

KRL, trailer park trash don't appreciate the distinction that because you are part jewish you were only jokingly "jewing" someone down on price. Exhibit A quoted above.

same here. actually, i never wore a watch before either. i hatge watches. even if someone were to give me a $15K watch, i wouldn't wear it. i just can't stand the feeling around my wrist.
I'd get that watch in a heartbeat if you can get a discount on it. Blancpain is arguably one of the top three watchmakers in the world, along with Jaeger Le Coultre and Audemars Piguet.
Pick up a copy of Watch Time magazine and you'll see that every real collectors got one in their stash.
If you haven't found a place to get it yet, talk to MikeAI -- he's a watch guy and has good connections.

Nobody said "dirty jew" you are just pulling shit out of your ass.
I used to buy expensive watches, well not 10ks but like 4-500$...
But i always loose/forget them in parties hotels or whatever...
I was getting frustrated every time! Ok its not a big deal loosing 500$ but i cant imagine how mad id be loosing a 10k+ watch! lol...
Now i buy watches under 100$ and when i loose one i just laugh
Even when ill be super rich i wont buy 10k watches neither, id rather give that money out to some people that really needs it...
If i want to impress someone i have other ways than showing my money :P
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

I'd also suggest a day trip over to Aruba from Curacao if you want to wait til you get down there to buy. The prices are better.
One thing to keep in mind though -- I'm not sure how Canada works but in the states if you bring back a stainless steel watch instead of white gold or platinum you'll pay more in duties, has something to do with precious metals.

The 3 best watchmakers in the world are Breguet (invented the wristwatch and tourbillion), Patek Philippe (the rolls-royce of watches) and a newer watch maker - Daniel Roth.
People may disagree with Daniel Roth, which is fine because the company is like 10 years old...but Patek and Breguet top the list, respecitvely. Patek has made the most complicated watches in the world - one timepiece had 33 complications, which later sold for 11 million USD.
Sleazy...its definately a nice watch for any high end watch connaisseur. $12K is a fairly average price for a good Blanc. Had a friend who had an $36K one so the price can definatley get up there

KRL said he has jewish blood in him and elswhere in another thread a month or two ago said he was a mix of different bloodlines. So I think it's a fair assumption that he is part jewish, and I don't know what difference there really is between part or whole nor does it really matter at all in this instance.
He is the one who said in response to me objecting to the reference "jewing someone down", said "You're allowed to when its in your blood."

OMG get over the semantics of each word on GFY. Half the time people don't even think while they're typing. Things just spool out from the keyboard.

Now let me enjoy my bagel. Thank you.
Sorry for being sensitive and have a nice rest of the day. Don't forget the lox.

Some watches (like Timex) are just assembled by a machine and hundreds could be made within an hour. Rolex and other "High-end" watches are all carefully hand assembled by watchmakers that are certified and pretty much every single part of the watch (like a single gear) usually goes through 20~40 steps to finish (cut, drilled, milled, polished, etc...). There's also the materials cost too, many highend watches use precious metals for the casing and in some cases, even in the movement. These kind of things do not come cheap. I think when Rolex sells a watch for $12,000, it is well worth it. You also have to remember that the value of these watches rarely gets deprciated. You'll most likely get a decent amount of money back for the watch if you sell it a couple of years down the road and in some cases, you'll get more than what you paid for giving you a bit of profit.
Dude that is the dumbest shit I have read. It pretty much makes teh case to never buy a high end watch.
Sleazy, I have a Blancpain Aqualung, it is a great watch. I wear it when I fish, or do anything outdoors.
I say get it, especially if you have fallen in love!
Make big money on your Domains! Why wait 40 days to get paid with the other guys? Parked.com pays the most for your traffic, and cuts checks twice a month!
Originally posted by bluff I doubt if people like Warren Buffet or Bill Gates wear watches like that. They don't need to impress. Buying this kind of stuff is often indicative of poor class. If you buy watches only because you love 'm, well, that's fine with me. I just want to warn you you're mistaken if you really think so.
What about P. Diddy and his rapper buddies that pays over $1M for a Jacob the Jewelry's watch, do they have poor class

I had a nice looking Jaeger Reverso and it WAS ALWAYS BROKEN. Had to send it to NY 3 times for repairs. Patek's are fragile, so are Blancpain. While not exclusive and Rolex's and Tags and Breitlings are way more durable and suited for daily wear. There is no such thing as "best." Maunual watches are a pain to keep wound. Automatics are great as long as you have a winding box if you have several watches and wear diff one each day.

Originally posted by SleazyDream i like it cause it ISN'T a rolex. 99.9% of the population won't know what you have, and think it's a $50 watch.
You can get a Patek Philippe for that kind of money!! That is a watch !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and it wont look like rolex but it is the Rolls Royce of watchesi
i got a tag kirium on ebay, for a steal, brand new (yes its real, and i know so since i had to send it in to tag for a new battery).
might wanna watch out with tag tho, its 100$ for a new battery, from tag. AT least it is in my case. I was told by tag it needs replacing every year (have yet to see if its true).
