Some of you guys are idiots.

Some watches (like Timex) are just assembled by a machine and hundreds could be made within an hour. Rolex and other "High-end" watches are all carefully hand assembled by watchmakers that are certified and pretty much every single part of the watch (like a single gear) usually goes through 20~40 steps to finish (cut, drilled, milled, polished, etc...). There's also the materials cost too, many highend watches use precious metals for the casing and in some cases, even in the movement. These kind of things do not come cheap. I think when Rolex sells a watch for $12,000, it is well worth it. You also have to remember that the value of these watches rarely gets deprciated. You'll most likely get a decent amount of money back for the watch if you sell it a couple of years down the road and in some cases, you'll get more than what you paid for giving you a bit of profit.

            Sleazy,

Nevermind these neanderthals. A fine wristwatch is a thing of beauty, an engineering marvel and an investment. Go for it.

Blancpain, however, are a little delicate for my taste, and their design won't get you the admiring glances I know you crave from connoisseurs like me -- hehe. You have to get too close to notice what it is.

Check out IWC. They are generally regarded as the finest Swiss watch on earth. It's all engineering though, and craftsmanship. You're not going to pay for a part that doesn't need to be made of gold. I'm a total whore for nice watches. If it can wait till next weekend, I'd love to go shopping with you.

Well I'm aggressive when it comes to haggling cause usually I'll do business with a company for a long time if they give me a good deal and I let them know that upfront.

The most I ever paid in terms of watches was for a Piaget that was tagged at $19,500. I went in when it was the worst season of the year so I knew the jeweler was going through his slow season and eager for a nice big sale. I spent a lot of time in his shop and then really worked him and then did a total take away and walked without buying. He called me the following day and offered me a deal if I bought the "hers" version of that Piaget too and he gave me right about a 1/3rd off his retail price which was a great deal.

A lot of people don't like haggling. I love it even on smaller items. I guess it comes from my years in the apparel business which is all hagglers. I just love the whole process of jewing people down on price and seeing how low I can get them to go.

people look at a blancpain and don't know what the fuck you have and don't know what to think. I like that.
In that price range, you should look for a Breguet or Patek Philippe...Blancpain's have poor resell value. Whenever you purchase an expensive watch, you should always check what that exact or similar watch fetched on the auction block on sothevys, antiqaurium etc....(NOT ebay)...

For that price range, I would get a Breguet Marine with a gold bracelet...you can check it on eBay...

Rolex are not that high end as you think ..

Blancpain is very serious company and they have one watch which is the most expensive one in the world and cost 1.000.000 usd ..

                    Other high end companies are:

                    Patek Phillipe
                    A. Lange & Sohne
                    Vacheron Constantin

So what would be the point in spending $12,000 on it if nobody knows you're a baller because you own one?

It won't tell time any better. The only reason to spend that kind of money on a watch is to show off. But if nobody knows, it defeats the purpose, doesn't it?

                      It's rather plain, IMHO.

The only Rolex that has a decent re-sell value, notwithstanding unique productions, are Rolex Submariner stainless steal...People collect these because they are reasonably cheap....If you keep a Rolex Submariner SS in good condition, at any given point you should be able to get about 90% of your money for it.

I just love the whole process of jewing people down on price and seeing how low I can get them to go.

i'm the same way - when with sweetums and PA, they were shocked at how quick i got the price down lol....i know they'll go lower and i think i'll get it for the $12K canadian range to be honest... if they do that i'll but it tomorrow ..if not i'll wait till i get to flordia or curracco.

Indeed, I am with you. The satisfaction of haggling is great. I do not care if it saves me "just the taxes". I enjoy it, especially the old "Well, a guy a few miles down has it priced at this amount, guess I'll go to him". I can can see how a presidential is worth $xxK but I don't see how this watch could be worth that much in precious metals... sounds like it is priced more along the Louis Vuitton pricing scale.. vs true performance or workmanship

Buying this kind of stuff is often indicative of poor class. If you buy watches only because you love 'm, well, that's fine with me. I just want to warn you you're mistaken if you really think so.

I remember Tanker getting a killer deal on a nice Movado in the airport. I believe the taxes down there are very minimal hence the low prices on watches and such.
