But the most effective negative reinforcment for a cat, (at least my five), is a water pistol. They really don't like getting squirted, and soon learn NOT to do what gets them soaked.

I don't slap my dogs, I find "bad boy" or "bad girl" works better than anything. They get depressed and go sulk when I say that. As for the cat, water doesn't work, he happens to like the water so if you go to squirt him he thinks you are playing and bats at the water and if you stop he cries for me. Stupid cat.Comment
