Anyone try the 5.1 surround sound CDs?

Lately there have been a few CDs released, the new NIN album for example, that support 5.1 surround sound systems. I haven't tried it out yet but am guessing the results are pretty sweet. Anyone have any input?

Yeah, I picked up the dual disc version of With Teeth. It sounds decent. A bit more crisp then regular cd quality.

Just decent? I was hoping it would spread everything out real nicely through all of the speakers.

Is it like the old Quadrophonic stuff with the cheesy effects? Or does it really add to the experience? I was looking for some classical stuff in 5.1; I'd imagine the orchestra setup lends itself nicely to surround setups.

I've got about 10 different 5.1 discs. They all sound better than the normal discs and some are fucking amazing.
I wish there were a lot more of them available.

My car has DVD Audio, and I hadn't used it until recently when my wife picked up the new Rob Thomas cd. One side is regular cd, the other is DVD Audio. The sound is fucking fantastic compared to the regular cd.

Are you talking about the 5.1 DVD-A disks? I haven't heard of just cd's supporting 5.1.

Maybe? I don't know much about it. I saw a commercial on TV for a new album and I know the new NIN album supports it.
