It depends where you live. And ofcourse anyone under say 25 doesnt do this anymore. But go to 50+ ppl on their bday.
Other example : funerals. What do you get there, coffee and cake. In the south they prepare a whole meal, vlaai, bread, beer, cigars. To honour the way he/she lived. Ive never seen anything else then coffee and 1 slice of cake.
Other example : go to the theatre, Amsterdam, Rdam, did you see any plates with free cake or cookies? Here they do. And the ppl grabbing 10 slices are always from the West
