I've done it and it is costly and time consuming but well worth it if you have a product to protect. Once you file the papers and are awaiting approval which takes a long time, you are already protected.
I had to defend mine twice and once during the approval process and once after. The after was real easy, all we had to do was say, "here it is"!
The fact that it is adult has nothing to do with the process, at least with the lawyer I used. Mine is mainstream, and in fact I have the domain and the trademark up for sale now. We can't seem to keep the car from crashing into the walls
