This might be a stupid question, but are message board posts subject to the new 2257 rules?
How will 2257 affect message board posting?

Any images hosted at a message board will need 2257 docs... there is no 2257 for text

Err, sorry... Yeah I meant for picsOriginally posted by HarmonAny images hosted at a message board will need 2257 docs... there is no 2257 for text
So if an image is hotlinked from another server, you'd technically still need 2257 docs? Yeesh.

Last I checked boards were "service providers" therefore exempt. Same as yahoo groups, profile sites, etc. etc. The person posting is 100% responsible for anything they post so you post porn = YOU have 2257 info and link the thread in your records...Originally posted by GatorBNo they would just arrest the person that owns the board.Comment

"Three commenters also commented that the definition of secondary
producers as those who "manage content" on a computer site could be
construed to include those who operate posting services such as Usenet,
bulletin boards, and other similar services. According to those
commenters, someone who removes illegal material such as child
pornography could thereby submit themselves to the requirements of Part
75, while if that person did not remove such material, the person would
be liable to prosecution for hosting child pornography. The Department
declines to adopt this comment. Operators of such sites are obligated
by law to remove child pornography from their sites and to report the
attempt to post such pornography to law enforcement. Compliance with
that legal obligation could not be construed as converting the operator
into a producer of pornography for purposes of section 2257 and this
regulation."
In other words board operators are not considered producers within the definitions of 2257.Comment

Gregg, the problem is you don't need to add another link to your records - but GFY needs model release and 2 forms of ID for this model. Who's domain is publishing the material?
Think about it. If someone open a new domain, and hotlink 100 CP images, you would say that they are guilty of distribtuing CP. Well, taken down to the other end of the scale, no matter who actually posts the images, GFY would appear to be responsble for them.
It's a big can of worms.

That would be true if the image was "attached" to the post, but it's not, it's hotlinked... making it still exist on a server other than GFY. It's all in what domain the image is on... not the domain that is image sourcing it.
