Is there really that much of a difference between Faith Hill and Avril Lavigne? Not to me. It's all the same sugar-coated shit, written by some professional songsmith in LA who shops the same stupid song to the country, R&B, lite-rock & pop artists.
There are a few artists who push the boundaries, defy all labels and usually are music of a sub-culture - they can't have the same type of mass-appeal because they go out of their way to not pander to commercial interests. Bands like TOOL and Mars Volta come to mind. I admire great artists and songwriters more then technically proficient vocalists.
If the lowest common denominator appeals to you, then more power to you, it's all just a matter of taste. But, to me, today's Carrie is yesterday's Kelly Clarkson.

Fine, you're entitled to your opinion, I just take exception to you calling her a safe pop singer "like all the other winners"
And you also said "they" chose her.....but remember, people called in and voted and the winner was based on that vote count.
More people liked her than liked Bo.....but Bo came in 2nd, which is no small accomplishment.
