If I was another advertiser I would be pissed at all the full-time serious webmasters who have disabled flash as a result of this ad campaign. I saw at least 10 people myself who actually posted that they turned their flash off thanks to the Allie banner.

Nice response.. My response.. Too little, too late and too many excuses... You could have swapped the banner out for one that had something that wouldn't have been offensive to those of us with kids and still gotten the influx of new affiliates...
As I stated before, you're lack of respect for me as a fellow webmaster with a family means that I won't be going out of my way for you. i.e. I won't be signing up for your program... I won't be informing you of stolen content... I won't be informing you of stolen passwords... etc. etc. etc. Now how many other WMs on here are going to be doing the same thing but AREN'T going to be letting you know... It's a fine balance between the greed of bad advertising and the damge done by it.

I just don't like the noise), so I missed the ad... hell I even thought about plugging the speakers in to listen to it. I never work at adult when there are any young people in the building. VERY MANY affiliate programs started from NOTHING and are making a nice gross profit in their first year just without having to use such childish and attention whoring methods as loud screaming banners. I started a htread about supporting Allie, and Czarina and I still do.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I am not exactly sure what you expect me to say. What I think you are saying is....I understand some people went through some very embarassing moments and that small children heard things they never should....but I was getting people to sign up so instead of taking the high road and earning the respect of my fellow webmasters I kept it up knowing that perhaps others would get hurt but I would get even more business.
Am I about right with that? I think I have it pretty close. So I guess in response to you all I have to say is that for some people respect is very important, for others it is the initial sale. I firmly believe that taking the respectable road takes you a lot farther both in life and in business....the instant gratification may seem like a winner but it isn't...because respect gets you through those hard times.
I honestly don't see much difference between your actions ignoring the problems individuals had and the antics of p1mpdog...sure he got business but he certainly didn't get respect.
And just in case you are wondering (and I know that you aren't), my little one has barely talked to me since the incident. I just don't know what to say to her. If she walks in the kitchen and sees me on my laptop she gets upset and walks out of the room refusing to come back in or speak to me. I personally feel like a piece of dirt and I failed her, I did not protect her....all because something must have rubbed up and moved the little dial on the side of my laptop and raised the volume when I keep it off so that no one would hear your banner.
Not that it matters now...but if you had to scream out something....you couldn't have screamed out something like "I'm going to make you rich baby" ...that would have grabbed my attention!Comment

I have an office that I go to when I do actual work so that the children are not exposed to things like that...there is a NO DISTURB unless an emergency rule with the office. When I answer email or surf boards I use my laptop in the kitchen.....and have positioned so that they do not see my screen. Why do this? Simple solution, wear headphones or turn your sound down...why turn the flash off...thats a bit extreme. With summer vacation, unlike a 15 year old teenager, the little one is around more and having to turn the volume up and down, put headphones on and off is not something that's constantly on my mind. If you have kids then you know that when you're working on something, concentrating, multi-tasking, they just become "noise" in the background.
My issue with this is that it was raised as an issue with Allie and her responses were basically "fuck off"... She could have changed the audio to being a more seductive "come join me" type thing and still got the results she wanted. But she made a business decision to not do that... The problem with this statement was this. Sometimes tits may flash on your TV screen by surprise and you don't really have time to switch the channel. But if you have seen the movie that is on, and you know there is a tit shot in it, then it's your JOB to change the channel when the tit scene is coming up. Same with the banners. You know they are there, you know your kids shouldn't hear them, do something about it and stop expecting everyone else to cater to your preferences.Originally posted by NickPapageorgio

I am on the wall with the whole kid situation.
I am a firm believer in this industry being below the belt as it is. And yes maybe people should think of different careers when they have kids.
HOWEVER we all need to pay the bills and survive and it just so happens some people do it in this biz.
All I can say is there is no winning in this argument.
There is ignorance to points on both sides. And the only way to win and argument in reality on GFY is to kill the opponent. Because:
NO ONE HERE is going to give up on either side they are defending/enforcing. So everyone stfu and remember: GFY is a clown playground. So if you start getting stressed out... go outside and watch fat people eat icecream. Same entertainment value, less keyboard warriors.Comment

You are completely correct. If you took the time to read my entire post I said that "I" felt like dirt, that "I" failed her. I also stated that "I" keep my volume off and my laptop positioned so no one can see the screen. My laptop volume control is just a little dial that sticks out on the side...something must have rubbed against it and turned the volume up without me knowing. I do not listen to music, I ALWAYS have my volume off....no matter whether I am on GFY or on CNN. I blame myself first and formost....my post was actually pointed at how Allie knew and understood that people experienced embarassing moments because of it...and she thought she should take it down....but she saw business coming her way and felt the business was more important than the feelings or embarassment of fellow webmasters. She was almost asking for us to condone it...and I gave my opinion...and my opinion is that I personally believe that respect is far more important than instant gratification. Flash is off now. This is just another set of eyes that won't see another flash banner on GFY which now means less word of mouth when another webmaster asks me about programs etc.
The flash is only one reason, it's now a much quicker board. I'm loving it.

Aly, you didn't do a damn thing wrong. You creatively marketed your affiliate program and you know what? The people who signed up, send you traffic, convert well, get paid on time and tell their friends will get you more affiliates. As long as thats what happens then this was well worth the discussion. If that doesn't happen then it doesn't fucking matter how you marketed since you won't have affiliates who will actually send you traffic.
I've got a son, 13, who accidentally did hear the banner, or at least part of it til I could close the page, and he didn't start bleeding from the ears or convulsing on the ground because of it.
Did it annoy me? Probably. Do I care that it did? Nope. Hell, if I worried about everything that annoyed me, I'd never get any work done at all. Or work with the various successful groups of people that I do.
I've been around this industry since '99, and you guys just need to keep your head up about this and your noses to the grindstone while you're building your business. Do not, for a minute, let the things that people post about you on a message board make you start to worry about what people will think before you make a choice. If you do that, you'll never get anything done at all. And believe me, in the course of the last five plus years, I've seen pretty much anything and everything posted about myself, true or not, on a ton of message boards. There was a time when I had to ask my friends to stop jumping in to defend me and just let it go, there was so much crap going on.
But at the end of the day, if you work towards your own goals, and realize that popularity doesn't spend like cash does, you'll come out successful.Comment

Like many of the webmasters here, I've opted to turn my sound down when browsing this board. Yes the flash banners can be obnoxious and loud, but what advertisement isn't? From music videos to television shows to commercals...Things are loud, bold and in your face. The banner did the job and earned her more affiliates. Regardless of whether or not the banner stopped at mouse out, it was APPROVED by the board owners and that's what counts. If the board owners thought there was a problem with it, they would have declined the ad.
I'm sorry that some people had embarassing run in's and children heard, but ask yourself: Why would you surf and adult webmaster board at a mainstream job? Why would you browse on a home PC if your spouse didn't know abut your job in adult? Why would you partake in these activities while your children are around? We're in the porn biz people. Expect the unexpected and just assume that everything is going to be offensive.
As far as Allie and Jake..They run a very professional program with excellent content and amazing conversions. I'm glad that theyre stepping it up to the next level and I wish them nothing but luck.
