How long does it take to erase the present?

In the future...

Could it get to a point where the majority of people are so repressed and clued out that they no longer know what the current state of technology is to the point to where they are in divine shock and awe at what they see when they see something as simple as a jet plane go by?

Think...like... that movie "The Village" but the village = the entire planet, except for say... Austrailia, where the ruling people on the planet live and all the technology is developed.

My guess is if they had a really good (err.. bad) plan, it would take a few hundred years to erase the present. Actually... if they used some sort of epidemic to wipe large chunks of the planets population first maybe it could be done in < 100 years. Scary.

A completely new world.

This is all hypothetical 'things that make you go hmmm' Dr. Evil shit of course.
