My son has had two in the last few years. It's not a colonoscopy. An endoscopy is down the throat. They zonked him out both times. He was out for less than 10 minutes. Didn't bother him at all.Comment

Yeah... I had it done a month ago..
I was at a Gastro specialist and he suddenly said 'Hmm.. I wonder if we have time to do an endoscope.......I guess so, follow me!'
2 minutes later, I was getting a numbing agent sprayed on the back of my throat, and 3 minutes later I was gagging uncontrollably with a big ass tube shoved down my throat...
then they filled my stomach with air, and I couldn't stop letting out huge burps...
then they poked a hole in my stomach lining for a biopsy...
it definately wasn't pleasant, but it only took 5 minutes... some places they give you drugs for it (to knock you out a bit), cause of the retching...Comment

I had the "nasty fucka" Endoscopy, the one up the ass

That one hurts like hell, apart from it feeling like a metal bar is going up your ass, they have air pumped in to expand the intestine so they can see more.
Your stomach feels like it's gonna pop with all the air, i was awake and watched on a TV screen, only lasted about 30 minutes but did hurt like hell.
And for the rest of the day i was farting for the world.......

yup.. a lot of gastro problems are damn hard to diagnose...
the biopsy is more for detecting bacteria, tumors, and ulcers...
I'm pretty sure mine was caused by 'dukoral', which is supposed to prevent traveller's diarrhea
it grows bacteria in your intestines... to combat e. coli and cholera...
Personally, I think my body was very unhappy with the new bacteria

i had endoscopy and colonoscopy a few weeks ago. it wasn't so bad really, except that I had an "abnormal anatomy" due to an operation I had years ago. Had to be given a sedative during colonoscopy as I was getting stressed out by the pain.
Between the two, I say, endoscopy is the "lesser evil"
Just don't forget to take deep breaths to prevent yourself from throwing up
