if the platters are failing to spin up you can put in the freezer for 3 hours
the cold will allow the drive to spin up and you can get most if not all the data back.

however this will kill the drive so you won't be able to hire a data recover company to recover it (the guys who charge $200/hour to read every bit of data off the individual platters and reconstruct it on a new drive)
