Members cant see images??? Help, im stumped!

Firewall on their end.

For example norton firewall has issues with images on sites using htaccess

What did I do to test? We tested differnt browsers and settings. We tried firewalls on and off and we could not recreat the problem these members are having.

It may be hotlink protection, I know it sound strange but try to remove it. On protecter areas hotlink protection is not working 100% correct.

I had the same problem with the movies on my member area.

Thats what I thought. I asked them to shutdown firewall and they saw no change.

Hmm, I'll have to contact the member with the problem and then remove my HL protection for testing purposes. Hope thats it!

In my experience it is Norton's Firewall. Also, AOL is famous for having issues within members areas. Are the people making the complains on AOL? If so tell them to jump on IE instead and see if that makes a difference.

Ive never used AOL myself, but you think it could mess things up that bad so that they cant see shit....WTF??!

Again, I have to contact one of the members wit thhe problem to see if thats it.

Make sure they aren't case sensitive, too. When you batch rename files, sometimes it changes the extension on the large files, but not the thumbs, depending on the software you're using. But then your html editor could be defaulting to all lower case or whatever. OR your ftp program could be converting the case as you upload. If your server is case sensitive, this could be causing a problem.

If the surfer has a nortons firewall in some cases the httaccess will stop the pictures from loading. Theres a easy fix but the surfer needs to change some settings in the firewall.

I've set my adblocker to block *ad* and *banner*, occasionally I get missing images that I actually want to see... maybe they've done similar?

Sounds like an issue with .htaccess...or their browser might have blocked the images from being viewed...

Some ISP's like charter now offer built in firewall service that you CANT shut down. if they have one of those ISP's they are SOL...

Ok, it goes like this Ray:

!. Do you use AOL? Yes? Look by your START button for the little blue lower case "e" and click on it. Go to the website with that, don't worry, it is free and it will help you access the site.

2. Do you use Norton's? No? Look where your clock is and hold your mouse over each of the little pictures until it says what it is...do you see one that says Norton's or Symantec? Ok, good, now just RIGHT click on it...see how it says "Disable Auto-Protect"? Click on that....now don't forget to turn it back on AFTER you leave the site. Now that it is turned off I need you to clear your cache....don't worry, it is just like a memory of the pages you visited and we don't want to go back to the website and have your computer remember the "problem" (Go through the "Click Tools, Internet options....etc.)
Ok, you have been great, now log into the site and there ya go!

*Notice how i said "Do you use Norton's?" No? Reason: Most of the people don't even know they have Norton's installed...nortons is usually part of a package bundle and they don't even no....your average person will just say "no"...so ignore their No and tell them where to find it.

Note: Yes I know they only need to lower the firewall within Norton's...but trust me....for the person having problems it is too hard walking them through it, best to just have them disable the auto-protect which is one click.

Can you tell I have been through this 10,000 times? haha

All you guys that said it was the firewall, you were correct.

When I first emaild this particular member he said he shut off his firewall and he still had the problem.

I then decided to send him a STEP by STEP tutorial on how to dissablle firewall AND clear his cache. He followed it and it worked.
