you're not thinking that the $ and the women is already there...
A good match in one of the 3rd world countries generates revenues in the millions of dollars, during league play, you have 20 or so games during the weekend (depending on the country)
Now... soccer players, DO make a lot of cash, they are rich and have celebrity status in 100 or so countries...
in the USA, people don't give a fuck about soccer (I don't really give a fuck about it either, it's just another sporting event)
Simply, to be able to pull the cash to get say, Zidane (worlds #1 player, valuated around 60 million usd) into a US Soccer team
you need two things:
1) An investor, who would be looking to get his money back as soon as possible...
2) Masses of people to go see the games...which is what will give the investor his money back...
See? simply put, no one is going to invest into US soccer, because there is no real ROI here (no one in their own mind would do it)...
BTW, there was an attempt to create a US soccer league, to put it bluntly, it's not there anymore
