With the delay and other setbacks as well as popular disapproval plans for the Freedom Tower may be scrapped. They may build modernized versions of the old towers, only taller, stronger, and with the most current technology including having double the amount of staircases and fireproof elevator tech.

Question is: What would other people prefer? I know from day one that I heard about the Freedom Tower I thought it was going to be ugly, not be as functional, and would never bring any of the former majesty. From the day of 9/11 I said they should not only build the towers back as they had been, but better. Seems most people agree, but I'd love a little debate about it.

the whole concept behind the freedom tower plaza design was amazing I think. Every year on 9/11 at the exact time the planes struck a "wedge of light" would pass through the center plaza in memorial of the tragic event. I wasn't a huge fan of the architectural design, but the concept behind the plaza itself impressed me. Personally being from the east coast and having spent far more time in NY then I probably ever should have, the towers are a staple of the manhattan skyline. I say build them bigger and stronger but keep the design the same. I saw a pic that AaronM shot of ny after 9/11 and I didn't recognize the city without the towers.

As much as I would love to see them re-built, I really wish they didn't. Think from a terrorists point of view here. "We just destroyed two huge/important american buildings. Now they are re-building them...let's knock them down again!!!" I think that it should just remain as a memorial of the event.

I am for rebuilding the towers as NYC skyline doesn't look right without them. However, this time lets put some AA on the roof.

Before i moved to FL 6 years ago, I worked across the street from the trade centers in the world financial center for about 7 years. I was there during the 1993 bombing attempt, glad i was out before 9/11.

I think they should rebuild the towers, NY is not the same without them. Why change to a new design, put them up bigger and stronger! What are the odds of them trying to do it again? I am sure they will try something again but not hitting the same targets.

You would be surprissed, i worked for a brokerage firm in the financial center across the streeet from the trade centers. Those people would work there in a sec. I was there during the 1993 bombing and most people were not even phased by what happened, believe me if you built them, people will work there.

My Ex-husband SKULL-BUITRE ran off to Colombia with OUR money and screwed me after I helped him build OUR business.
He is hiding in Colombia and never paid the settlement $ from our divorce!

They were there for pretty much our whole lives man. As far as the memorial they said on TV that the families graded the plaza memorial with an F. I'd look up a source but i'm trying to install some weird scripts. I'm not sure reenactment, even symbolic, is the best way to memorialize it. Since those towers fell I can't get around southern manhattan for the life of me. I look at the city and it looks empty. Everytime I see the skyline it creeps me out, which sucks because its visible from my backyard and I love the city view.

I believe it speaks more to the american spirit to build them as they were with all the improvements as a big fuck you to the terrorists. FUCK YOU. WE ARE STILL HERE, WE ARE STILL STANDING, AND WE ARE STRONGER THAN WE'VE EVER BEEN. I think that would speak volumes. A few of my friends who lost family are all for something closer to the original design and hated the freedom tower.

BTW, I hate how we tack the word "freedom" onto everything these days.

Personally I can not stand memorials. I am pretty damn sick of seeing them everywhere. People really need to get over stuff. Sure it was a tragic day and many innocent people died and for that I feel for them, but come on we do not need more memorials.

I agree with most, but for those lost in such a big attack i feel its warranted. They will do it beautifully and tastefully so it should have a great aesthetic value for being in one of the busiest and most trafficed cities in the world.

Because its bigger than just the families involved. It's bigger than a single headstone or even the 2800 people who died. It's like like anyone will forget, but the tower(s)(depending on what they finally decide to go with) will be monuments themselves to those who have come before us and paid the ultimate price. It's about progress and moving on. It's about the american spirit and the reverance for our dead and trials we've gone through. Of course people die, but most of them will never mean anything to anyone nor would have done or been a part of something greater than they are.

Memorials are the opposite of moving on, they are about clinging to what had been or happened.
Want progress and american spirit, collectively stop bickering about what they should be and how they should look and just rebuild them as quickly as possible. Great points. I'd also thought of that and hadn't mentioned it yet. The proposed "freedom tower" was only to be around 70 stories of usuable space. The towers were around 100/100 each(I believe). Those are millions of square feet of business space lost that can be had again and added to.

As to whoever asked "who would work there?"

People who want jobs in the biggest and best financial powerhouse city in the world. Everyone.

I have to agree.... Im not sure if it would be a memorial to the victims or the terrorists if it just stays a park or something like that.
