    Anti-Depressants Kill Your Sex Drive?

I have a female friend who is having problems with her man because he has recently gotten on anti-depressants and has lost his sex drive.

So I suppose his world is much brighter now but that's a pretty shitty side effect.

Anyone have any experiences like this?

I have never been on anti-depressants myself so I had no idea this was a common thing from what I have heard so far.

yeah that's a side effect for some people. buy her one of those Hitachi magic wands.

other common side effect of some anti-depressants is it makes it hard for a guy to finish, which can be a good thing or a bad thing.

damn well I think it was supposed to help them with their relationship, no clue but that is just bad news.

So millions of people out there are on these things and fucking up their relationships because they need happy pills?

And I guess that's where the viagra comes in?

It just doesn't make sense to give up your sex drive for false sanity.

Not everyone has the same side effects

Viagra isn't a miracle pill. If you don't want to do it, you won't do it. Viagra is not an aphrodisiac.

Loss of sex drive because of anti-depressants and erection problems/impotence are 2 different things.

Yeah but drugs make things more fun. ;)

A pill for everything wrong, that's how the health system works here. If it makes sex more enjoyable you can be sure pill heads are getting their viagra in too.

my wife took zoloft for the longest time....she had no libido

wellbutrin is the best if you still wanna have some sex drive....my wife's doctor even verified this

the best thing to do though is to not have to take them anymore, there are many ways to make your life better and not have to take pills anymore

it took my wife almost 3 years of soul searching, but she is finally to a point where nothing is needed and she is very happy to be pill free

I was going to say the same thing. It's one of only 2 or 3 anti-depressants that doesn't normally mess with your libido. I've also read that it can actually increase your sex drive in some cases, but I suspect it's because it makes people's outlook on life better, so they feel better about themselves, and in turn want to have sex more. That's just my theory though.
I took wellbutrin for a while to help me quit smoking, and I didn't notice any effects either way.

Someone needs to start prescribing these things to the lower class so they stop breeding.

                      Does public assistance cover zoloft?

I'm sure that 90% of people taking anti-depressant pills do not need it. Your right, we live in a society where pills is the cure for everything.

When we see young kids taking Prozac, there's something wrong. Lots of doctors receive gifts from pharmaceutical companies.

Many people that take the anti-depressants really need them and the problem they may be trying to over come is a bigger deal than a roll in the hay . So if you have to take 'em for more than a few days, get the problem fixed if you can. See a shrink. Of course most of them are wothless. So see a good shrink.

Viagra is not the real answer. One blue pill for another, figures. Viagra enables those with a problem, doesn't create an urge that isn't there to begin with. It's all in your mind don't ya know.

I was on zoloft, it not only fucked my sex drive, but also the relationship. It's hard to make decisions when you're manic.
Please be gentle to the girl, not many people understand depression, and it's a delicate situation to be in

Sadly it's not that easy. Depression is a medical condition AND a state of mind. You need to have seratonin replaced (the pills) and you also need to make life changes. It's both that will pull you out, and it's good to hear your wife got there.

It's also very easy to 'fall in love' w/ your depression- people need to feel something, strong sadness, strong happiness- the lines can easily blur.

scary stuff. glad i'm over it, glad your wife is over it :D

Luckily I've never had to take them either, but a girl who used to work for me got married and had this HUGE, expensive, blow-out wedding. The guy she married was really nice and I liked him but they were just sooo totally different. She was into short stories, poetry, trivial pursuit, she liked going to museums, traveling, etc. He played golf 24/7, the only time he wanted to travel was to Biloxi or Vegas to gamble, and had probably never read a book for pleasure in his whole life.

Anyway, within the first year the reality of things set in and she ended up taking Paxil (I think). After a year of taking it, everyone started in about them having kids and her husband really wanted to, as well. Only problem was, the doctor wouldn't let them start trying until she had been off the medicine for x amount of months. She was all upset about it so I started telling her that the time would fly by and they'd be able to get things going before she knew it.

She sort of looked at me funny and said, "Oh I'm not upset about that. I'm upset about stopping the medicine. If I take it I can't get pregnant. But if I stop taking it, he gets on my nerves so bad I can't stand to sleep with him, so I still don't know how I'm ever gonna be able to have a baby."

So millions of people out there are on these things and fucking up their relationships because they need happy pills?

And I guess that's where the viagra comes in?

It just doesn't make sense to give up your sex drive for false sanity.
Yep...a friend of mine was on Zoloft..and, couldn't get a boner even. And his doc then gave him Viagra.

He didn't know if he was cumming or going!

My ex girlfriend was afflicted in this very way. Her doctor put her on a different anti-depressant and her sex drive was magnificent for almost a year. THEN... she discovered she was suffering a few OTHER side effects that caused her to have to change the type of anti-depressant yet again.

The new one all but annihilated her sex drive all together. I had been taking ginseng for a few years at that time and recommended it to her. It really helped her out in the sex department let me tell you.

Anyone with this problem should take their anti-depressants but also get in the habit of taking a daily ginseng tablet.... a good quality one from a health food store. It really does envigorate you and "up" your sex drive considerable. Viagra works for the immediate "here and now" fix, but ginseng is natural and works in the long term. It takes a few weeks to a month to kick in if taken consistently.

Doctors are lazy. They like to put everyone on pills instead of listening to their patients describe their symptoms.

They put my husband on an anti depressant about 7 years ago. It did not work.We found out last Sept it was a pituitary tumor.
