It varies really. In Waikiki its all Japanese tourists and shit, everywhere else its pretty laid back and mellwo. The crime rate is like any major city, don't be stupid and you won't have a problem, but crystal meth is a big problem (one of my good friends has been to prison a few times for it, and he has a lot of friends in the same boat, put it this way - I am really glad their my friends and not my enemies), and people on that are fucking crazy. There is the Yakuza (Japanese Mafia), Korean Mafia, and some drug gangs or whatever. SOme places you don';t want to go if you're non Hawaiian, or unless you're with some Hawaiians who are known (most Hawaiians know other Hawaiians). It's pretty cool living here though, but I';ve lived here for 5 years and am starting to wonder if I should move on. But I tried that before and ended up coming back, you can't really leave this place once you;ve lived here for any length of time.
