So easy with the heavy weights. When first starting to work out you'll notice weight gain when on the scale. Stay away from the scale and focus on the result you see in the mirror. Muscles weigh more than fat too and even if you're not lifting weights you're still gaining muscles for example in your legs and thighs...and your ass (you said it looked good). Good luck with it...but don't be so focused on the scale, look at yourself and see if you look good, numbers don't tell you that.
if you look like you've lost weight but still weight the same, you've lost fat and gained muscle.

What I suggest is to (like many have said) do high reps low weight. You'll create lean muscle which burns lots of calories. FYI an average lifting session burns about the same number of calories that a meduim intensity cardio workout does.
