how come so many people live in fear of beeing robbed and murdered in this great country? is it the media coverage or the threat warnings of the government that makes pleople live in constant fear?
i really dont worry about it since if somebody is going to mug me its going to happen and me being afraid really wont stop it from happening. But i dont let myself get into a situation where somebody could mug me like walking down an emptry street drunk.
people in other countries have guns too. but they don't aren't living in constant fear/on the edge all the time beeing concerned about some guy breaking in their homes, raping their children and shoting everything moving.

what's your view?
I personally do not know a person that lives in "fear"...do you?
When you're running down my country hoss...you're walking on the fighting side of me!

More like they fear the people in the "other" neighbourhoods.
Desperate people are scary, because they will do anything to get what they need. And unemployment leads to poverty, leads to desperation, leads to crime, results in fear. Therefore higher unemployment and a depressed economy means a more fearful citizenry.

I remember on Leno when he did his Headlines bit, one of them was a police blotter where a person had called the police to report that he had heard "a knocking sound" at his door..
well its not only the gun issue. its also the attitude "some" people show. why do so many people believe the stuff on tv? people easily overreact when they hear terror threads (even in little villages!) and don't think one bit. "if the president says so, it must be true!"
Americans "live in fear"? So this is the latest American myth? It's amusing to watch you idiots scramble around looking for yet another cultural difference so you can feel good about yourselves. What's the matter? Your "soccer" team get knocked out of the tournament of the month? News for you. You can't rule the world by kicking a ball around!
Alert warnings? Hardly anyone in the US even knows what the alert warning is. I couldn't tell you what color it is from day to day. No one pays attention.
And ok, the terror alert level is a government conspiracy to control the economy? The dismal science gets yet more dismal. I can't wait to see to the new economics books. Interest rates, tax rates, free trade agreements, and .. the"Terror alert level"? That's a good one.
Happy Independence Day to all you FUCKING Americans. Now that's a real holiday! Know what fireworks are symbolic of? The American ability to blow shit the fuck up! Now I'm going to watch some. See ya!

I have a number of guns. I used to hunt...I no longer hunt. I still target shoot from time to time and enjoy target shooting. Of course anyone of the guns has the dual use of self protection. Some people collect stamps etc...some people have gun collections. I collect belt buckles. "Fear" is a much over used term and in my opinion is frequently used improperly. In my opinion...concern...being prepared...etc. would be a more appropriate words for those that own guns for a singular purpose...self protection. To repeat...I do not know a single person that lives in "fear".
