Clear Channel Sued Over Stern Cancellations
Clear Channel has been sued by Infinity Broadcasting and One Twelve Inc., the company that places Stern's show on affiliate stations, for violating the terms of the agreements CC had to air The Howard Stern Show in six U.S. markets. Infinity and One Twelve seek more than $10 million in damages, and each accuse Clear Channel of failing to notify them that Stern's show was being dropped ? a requirement of the contract. Infinity and One Twelve also charge in their breach of contract claim that they are owed license fees by Clear Channel. In a statement, Clear Channel EVP/Chief Legal Officer Andy Levin said, "Howard Stern is the only one who has broken the law. His contract explicitly requires his show comply with all FCC rules and regulations. On several occasions, it clearly did not. Clear Channel Radio had both a legal right and an obligation to stop broadcasting it." Stern's show was pulled from Clear Channel's WBGG/Miami; WTKS/Orlando; WXDX/Pittsburgh; WNVE/Rochester, NY; and KIOZ/San Diego.

I used to be an avid Stern listener.. but he has turned into a whiny bitch lately...

If you want to push the envelope.. you have to be willing to face those consequences...

I.E. Larry Flynt spent time in prison for what he did... he didnt just get dropped from 7-11 from selling his mags

I stopped watching my local clear-channel owned station when they were allowed to buy so many media outlets.

Thank goodness they put the brakes on that stupid move.

The Constitution specifically mentions press, so that government cannot use the arguement you just gave to limit the reach/audience of unpopular ideas. The 1st Ammendment is impotent if the government controls the media and opposition has to rely on playing chinese whispers.

Howard has been doing the same show for years, only since right wing religious anti-free speech Bush took office have they tried to shut him down.

You think that because the government violated the constitution by throwing Flynt in jail, Howard should go to jail to?

That is so important. It's not anything from the Howard Stern show lately that's been prosecuted, someone went through with a fine tooth comb to find something from 3 years ago to fine him for.

I've never seen the country so tense since the Vietnam War conflicts.

It's turning into 1966 again.

Pretty soon something is going to come to a disastrous head if the legislative branch doesn't start doing it's job.

Things only get this far out of hand when someone is scared of a secret being exposed or they're too pussy to stand up and shout.

I think these days we're living in are the most dangerous the world has faced from our own doing.

Freedom of the press is "Freedom of the Press". That means the real news, not talk show hosts who aren't objective. In the news business you're supposed to be objective except on the editorial sections. Get it?

Talk radio like Rush and Howard aren't 'the press'. They're 'the media'. A whole different ball of wax. They're supposed to by law announce at the beginning, during and end of each show that they're NOT the press but an opinion based entertainment show.

That's the loophole the feds are making against Howard and the rest but they don't broadcast it cause then Rush would have to tell the mindless public that he actually is only spinning his side of the story.
