well its like we didnt see this coming. He was the ruler, who was attacked and thrown out of power and without his approval someone else is in charge. Any and all dictators are going to state that it was unfair and wrong.
He sees himself as the victim - and he will continue to think that right up until he gets his head whacked off. Perhaps now iraq can put on TV to the terrorists a statement like:
"turn Bin Laden in 3 days or Saddam gets his head chopped off"
that way they get a piece of their own cake for a change.Comment

All this hate for Saddam please tell me three things he did to the American people I'm curious? Dont bring up the gassing of the kurds because our government was still behind him while that was happening. The picture everyone sees of Rumsfield shaking his hand that wasnt too long after the gassing happened.Comment

Iraq would be a much better place if he was allowed to go back to killing, torturing, gassing and raping his own people. They definately should have at least kept the infant mortality rates for children under 5 at the same 10-15% levels as it had been under Saddam.Originally posted by polish_aristocrat

:::::::::::::: Iraqi Ballot :::::::::::::::::In another exchange, the former dictator said no one had the authority to strip him of his title of president if he is being accused of committing the crimes while he was in office. "I'm elected by the people of Iraq. The occupation cannot take that right away from me," he said
A. I vote for Saddam.

They leave out a little part of the gassing story during the gulf war . Bush the first told the kurds to rise up against your leader ,we will help you. They rose up and we didnt help them. Also seems lately we have been doing a nice amount of torture and rape in Iraqi jails . Where up to 90% of those held are innocent according to the red cross. Here is the question once again.Originally posted by Pleasurepays

If he was such a monster why didnt they rise up and have revolution? This is what people with nothing to lose do. People say because they were afraid of Saddam. THey were afraid of Saddam but not of the most powerful army in the world makes no sense.
I am sorry the just because the news said it its true doesnt work for me anymore. Also why did the American government support such a monster if they knew all these terrible things he did for all those years.Last edited by tony286; 07-01-2004, 06:17 AM.Comment

Very valid point indeed. Personally, I don't think it was our responsibility to go in there and free ANYONE. Fuck those people. If they were too afraid to rise up against their government (Like 95% of america is now) then they got what they got. I don't give a fuck if they gassed, burned, shot, exploded, hanged, beheaded, raped or chopped each other to little bits. We need to stop being world policemen and worry about our own shit.Originally posted by tony404

what is so hard for you to understand that about politics?
why did France support Saddam? ... or other countries at the time, because it was in their interests as well for whatever reason.
get over it. i hate when people act as if hypocrisy in politics and international policy is something new and only one country is hypocritical in their behavior. every country doing global business, that has global poitical and economic interests is THE SAME!
shouldn't you be stopping the genocide in Sudan right now? what are you doing here.Last edited by Pleasurepays; 07-01-2004, 06:24 AM.Comment

As people are saying what does it have to do with America how he acted? A few years ago Americans were being strung up from trees based on their colour. Even war veterans who could die next to a white man fighting a white mans war, could not have a cup of coffee with him in a cafe.
And as for supporting regimes that cut off womens heads, please let's not bring into this argument Saudia Arabia.
Bush for some reason got it into his head to invade Iraq, subsequent events are proving how much a mistake that was. Name me one GOOD thing that came out of the invasion?
And Saddam was widley loved by a lot of his people, because he was better than the guy before him. Iraq is not Oklahoma and stop thinking it is. It's a backward third world nationthat is berely out of the middle ages.Comment

Also, Kurds are not Saddam's "people". Here's a brief history of the Kurds . The Kurds have been perceived as a thorn in the side of the Iraqis for some time. Turkey, an American ally and therefore exempt from any charges of atrocities it seems, have repeatedly "surpressed" the Kurds in their own country.
Saddam is evil because . . . ? Learn to think independently of what the Nightly News tells you to think. (Which is not to suggest that Saddam is a saint. Only that his "crimes" are no greater and no less than many others including our own esteemed leaders.Beat it. Nothing to see here.Comment

Shot at our planes when a no fly zone was established.
Denied weapons inspectors regulaly.

Saddam came to power by forming a coupe, going into the Iraqi senate and reading a list of names. Anyone on that list was then lead outside and shot. Lets not forget about the stories of acid baths etc..Have Chargebacks? Send me a message.

So you think a statement by a low-mid ranking official like an ambassador who says that the US has "no opinion" regarding Arab-Arab conflicts is tantamount to "If you invade any of your neighbors we'll look the other way?" Is that a "blessing"?Originally posted by Paul Waters
