Depends on the person they're protecting. Bodyguards for celebrities tend to be big and intimidating, giving the impression that the celebrity is more important that they actually are. Dark shades help.

Bodyguards for politicians, dignitaries, royalty etc will vary their appearance depending on conditions. The idea is NOT to stand out! They will know in advance what the person they are protecting is wearing, and will dress to match them - if all the bodyguards are wearing dark glasses but the dignitary isn't, that makes it easier for a potential threat to single out the dignitary. Bodyguards clothing should be a similar colour to that of the dignitary for the same reason. Dark glasses are worn only if conditions dictate (eg bright sunshine) - hiding their eyes is rarely a concern. If they do wear dark glasses, you can guarantee they're very expensive and optically perfect..
