I don't know how long you plan to stay in Puerto Vallarta, but if you'll stay for more than a week, then rent car or take a bus and spend the weekend in Guadalajara, Mexico.
It's my favorite mexican city, despite being the second largest city in the country. It's rich in history and has traditional mexican architecture.
Guadalajara is 2 hours from Puerto Vallarta, and on the way there, you can stop at Tequila. From all drinks produced in Mexico, the most famous is produced in the Tequila Region.
In the same way that, under international agreement, only cognac produced in the French region of Cognac can bear the name of cognac, only the tequila produced in Jalisco, and some small regions of Mexico can bear the name "tequila".
