I think the game is to be as physically close to other human beings as possible and still not have interpersonal physical/verbal interaction unless its via a headset.

Native resoloution sucks for gaming. So does shitty low refresh rates. thats why CRT is the choice of most gamers. your not gonna match gaming quality of a CRT with a flat panel unless your willing to drop serious cash which most young gamers dont have.

It's probably just as likely the pictures are a few years old. You can get an LCD with a quick enough response rate for most people (even geeky LAN gaming types) for not too much money now. However that wasn't the case as little as 12-18 months ago.
