Exotic vacations.... where to go?

Well, I went to Mexico recently with the girlfriend. Puerto Vallarta has more tourists in the bars than locals. Lame.

Anyone know of any cool exotic places to vacation? I'm talking like, really fucking far out shit. Price isn't too much of an object, but it can't be more than like $700 US a night for two peeps.

I just got back from a week's vacation at the Dominican Republic, we stayed at the Bavaro, Iberostar (http://www.iberostar.com), which was excellent.

I also highly recommend Jamaica. The Breezes resort in Montego Bay is very nice and the Riu in Negril is great as well.

You can go everywhere as long as you stay away from the big tourist places. I wouldn't go to Ibiza that place is filled with tourists on high season, it's a great place to be but not if you don't want other tourists around.

Try something like Indonesia ( very pretty country, with lots of culture)

My favorite exotic beach vacation was on the island of Langkawi in northern Malaysia where there was a nice white sand beach and almost no other tourists (even in high season), or people pestering you to buy stuff on the beach... and you can get a nice cottage on the beach for cheap. The beaches on the other coast are supposed to be even nicer and more relaxed atmosphere.

My favorite idea I recommend to people is to rough it a bit and go to Cambodia and visit Angkor Wat.

Go to www.lonelyplanet.com and have a look at the messageboard (Thorn Tree). Lots of great suggestions.

if you mean for "exotic" nice beaches, those pics above are great!.. if you want some cultural exotic, then try with Indonesia.. I've heard a lot of fantastic stories about that place..

I'm surprised at your trip to PV -- I love it, and Cabo, and hate pretty much everywhere else in Mexico.

Curacao is a fantastic place to visit, so is St Maarten... I've heard great things about Turks and Caicos and it's on my list of places to go in the Caribbean.

Fiji, Bali, Tahiti are also on my list.

Hawaii isn't a bad trip either for beach stuff.

I would love to visit that location in winter, but not the most expensive ones. Yes, the prices can go to $700/night, but I think they start at $300-400/night. The only problem is my girlfriend told me, it would be boring, there is no place to go. LOL
Women dont get it, they cant just sit down and do nothing, when Im on vacation, I want just relax!

I love Barbados and the people there are amazing. The resort we stayed in was a hop and skip away along the beach from a tiny little town. You could go there to their local drinking holes and hang out with them. They enjoyed the company and usually you were the only tourists in the place.
