NATO has been in Bosnia - if memory recalls - for the past ten years and officials believe fighting will break out within a month of the troops leaving. So even if we go through the motions in Iraq (and I seriously doubt it will go beyond window-dressing), what realistic chance is there of the outcome people are hoping for?

Whatever...some countries are better off being lead by dictators. The US army is propping up some dude who has no power, and that dude will be backed up by our military (who I do respect), who also does not have a whole lot of power over there and nothing will change except "breaking news" that will be spoon-fed to the American public about how democracy is developing in a country that has no idea what freedom is.

Did you read the Sunday Doonesbury? USA is building 14 bases in Iraq, that hardly seems like a transfer of real power. Not sure where G. Trudeau got that info from, but he rarely bases his strips on questionable info.
