I'm building a new video editing machine from the ground up and I want a good Dual Monitor Video Card.

If you're not going to play games on the machine, get an Matrox Parhelia (these cards as so damn good they even increase the display sharpness), otherwise ATI 9600/9800/X800.

I think that's the card to beat right there, the stats on it look damn impressive. Whichever card you do end up going with please do let me know, I'm about to build my own editing system and don't think I'll go up to Tri-displays just yet.Originally posted by AaronM

That card is designd for Autocad/3DMax/Maya etc. For video editing you don't need OpenGL performance and this card is just too expensive for the job.Originally posted by AaronM

No, this card will not be used for games...This is for a video editing workstation only.

I think the Matrix is the way to go, but if you don't like it, any card with one of these chipsets will do fine:
ATI 9600/9700/9800
ATI X600/X800
NVidea GeForce 5900/6800
For video editing you won't need more then 128MB RAM. Dual DVI output depends on the brand of the card.
I prefer ATI over NVidea for better driver support.Comment

one big advantage of matrox though: the quality of the monitor ports is equally good - on most other cards the second port is significantly inferior than the first. we are working with several matrox dual head and triple head cards since years now - no concerns so far.Originally posted by AaronM

Get some decent brand mobo like ASUS or ABit to make sure your video card works fine. Another word of advice, AMD is way faster than Intel for games, however if you are going to render video, Intel is the way to go. I think 3.0GHz Intel will finish the job 20% faster than AMD 3000+. If you are going to spend some money, get the newest AMD Athlon 64 3800+ socket 939, that on can't be beaten by Intel.
For harddisk, if you go with Serial ATA, buy the Western Digital Raptor 73GB (WD740GD, 10.000rpm, 8MB, SATA), you will love them for video editing.

I have a question I have two lcd monitors nec 1530 v's they have vga connections if I got dvi adapters for them and a dvi card would see a big difference or not?Comment

The DVI connector gives both digital and analog signal, with adaptors, you don't use the digital signal, but the analog. So buying a new card is useless.Originally posted by tony404
