they take such domains the very first second they expire. Their process is automated, so if you attempted to get it manually you didnt stand a chance in reality :/

There are many private collectors and corporations like buydomains and ult search that have private registrars and expensive resources working for them snagging up domains. The domain market is fierce. Nowadays, the "big players" do not hesitate to drop 20K on a domain only worth 5K, as I have seen time and time again in domain auctions.

In a resell situation, they'd be able to get about 1/4 what they payed (if they were lucky). My point was that they can pay more than what a domain is worth/will resell for because they make it up on volume.
