I need to build a computer....give me your dream specs.

I'm gonna build this thing over the next couple of months or so...don't wanna plop down $1,000's for a system just yet...but I wanna build a really nice system.

This is what I need it for.
    Design work.
    Video work
    Games *of course*
I haven't built a system in over 3 years because this one was pretty powerful when I built it then and just added more power re: vid card/ram etc as time went on.
I would like this system to pretty much be the same..in that I won't need to really upgrade it for at least a year or two.
So in a nutshell I'm pretty much tech/spec retarded...let me have it.

Don't some games have issues with the dual cpus?
Once again I'm tech retarded...bear with me.

def. go with the xeon dual....or if you wanna get real dreamy, check out the new dell server line they have QUAD Xeons (xeon 4 ghz x 4) and get upto 12 ghz in processor speed.

Be sure to add in all the 500 gig hard drives (SATA RAID 0) so if you load 16 of them into that Dell box it becames 8 Terabytes of storage. Did I also mention they were hot swapable (therefore you can order an additional 16 hot swaped 500 gig drives and bring your total storage to 16 Terabytes when you swap out the drives!)

Now include the 70" Panasonic LCD TV/COMP Display for your monitor (of coarse its got a computer port on it built in) with the highest grade graphics card......and your done.

            Good Luck

Intel is good at one thing. Advertising. And 4Ghz x 4 would be 16 Ghz.
                    Why not get a 8-Way Opteron 2.6Ghz? 20.8Ghz.

But all in all a dual system would benefit you the most with video rendering. If you want to stay under $2k and have a kick ass system get a Athlon 64 with 2Gb RAM and 4 SATA 250gb 16mb cache drives. Then do a raid 10 with them. This will give you redundancy and some extra speed. Plus 500GB of storage.

By the time you purchase it the 4200Mhz should be out which are supposed to include dual proc's on a single chip.
                    Your sig chose me!

duel xeon over duel opteron are you out of your fucking mind. Duel Xeon is a 32bit processor, which btw my single athlon amd 64bit 3000 beat a duel xeon 3.0 in a render in 3d studio max. Get the DUEL OPTERONS MUCH FASTER plus is a 64bit processor. Runs real nice check out Boxxtech.com see why there using opterons instead of xeons. peace

yea the only nice thing about xeons you can pick them up decently cheap on ebay if you dont mind waiting a little.

                                i picked up a 2.8 xeon for $160 about 8 months ago.

i saw somewhere were there was a computer that was encased in bombproof material, said it could go through a bomb explosion and be fine

add that to your Dell 16 ghz system (its late and my math was off)

Hold off for a month until the new Intel dual core CPus are out, and combine it with the new nforce boards with sli. You will be pissed in two months if you buy a new computer now, heaps of cool stuff is just around the corner.
