    Who is in Seattle?

I'm headed to Alaska in the middle of May and will be stopping in Seattle for a couple of days on the way back. May 19-22. I'd love to see some folks!

Any recommendations on a decent yet not outrageously priced hotel? I want to see the fish place and the space needle for sure.

    Thanks

Seattle Executive is reasonable and it's central to everything downtown. Pretty much any hotel that is "downtown" will be a great location. If you have a chance to make it to Alkai Beach, you'll get a great view of Seattle. Other than that there are a lot of people in Seattle. Dormangels, Soulcash, Swiftco and others.. i'm sure they'll post

Peaches, PK talks about so many great restaurants and places to see in the Seattle area, maybe she will come forward. She should be getting back from Las Vegas today, and she is a wealth of information about the area.

My brother and his wife flew to Alaska and took a cruise. They had a wonderful trip, as you will, too.

Peaches!! How are you holding up? I've been thinking about you alot lately and hope you're doing alright.

I would LOVE to get together when you come up. I'm an hour or so north of Seattle near the san juan islands. It's gorgeous here!

No, sadly this is the trip to spread some of my son's ashes. We are flying into Anchorage and then going to Seward and spreading them there. We are actually spending more time in AK than originally planned but FF points are being used so I have to work with that. We'll see more of AK but it will be a bittersweet trip.

I live in Seattle. There is this place that is called "The Inn at the Market" Its in the heart of the pike place market and not too outrageous considering where its located.

I threw my After-Prom party there in the suite many moons ago

LOL Raven, I tried that the other night. All it did was make me spill red wine on my white carpet and puke all the next day ;) I can have a great time on 2 glasses of wine and watching others though

The Inn at the Market looks perfect - is that something that's relatively close to everything? I don't want to get a car. Every time I rent a car in a different state I get a ticket. Other places take traffic laws more seriously than we do here!

Well, that all depends on what you want to be close to. You could walk to space needle or pioneer square from there if you dont mind a 20 minute walk. Or if couple minutes by cab. I think its pretty ideal

check out www.vrbo.com. In case you don't know about it - it's a site for people to rent their own places out.

It'll end up saving you quite a bit - when you don't end up paying the hotel $20 for parking and 18% hotel tax.

I found these listed there http://www.seatoskyrentals.com/

Here's a hotel that looks nice/affordable and is with in 3 blocks of the downtown shopping area. 8-10 blocks to the fish market aka pikes place market
                                        http://www.vancehotel.com/

---Here are two bed and breakfasts that sound nice. the first is in the heart of the lower downtown/classic old seattle. the second would be a little walk /short cab to downtown. so less ideal if you plan on bumping around downtown

Well, maybe not. The only rooms they have available for those dates are the $395 and $575 - more than I want to pay They had rooms listed for $210 but I guess those aren't available.

                                          Any other suggestions?

it's also really easy to grab a bus right up the hill from that hotel - which will go straight to pioneer square... if that's one of the things you end up goign to check out

Awesome. I go there and stay with whoever the GF of that year is sometimes Its nice , nice location....

Also, if you want to get one dinner while you're there that is really good but might set ya back kinda on the larger scale. Go to this one called "Campagne" Its basically right below the hotel as i remember. Its one of those places where you could spend 30/plate or 100/plate...its french and its REALLY good.

For seafood - Cutter's is on the north end of the pike place market so thats really close to you. If you wanna take a cab their a good place called "Chandler's Crab House" on Eastlake (any cabby will know where that is).

For Sushi - You're fairly close to my favorite place. Its called "Saito's" and you're probably a total of 5-6 blocks from it. Also, "Ototos" on Queen Anne Hill is very good and about 5-10 min. via cab.

Burgers and stuff - You can always go to the space needle. i wouldnt call it special or anything but its a worthwhile experience to go up and see the city from up there and why not grab a bite. I'd put it on bar with like appleby's or something. If you want good burgers, beer and stuff...Hit up FX McRory's by the sports stadiums in pioneer square....

Italian- I would suggest Lumbardi's . Its in a neighborhood called "Ballard". You would need to take a cab and it would be 15-20 minutes but its pretty delicious.

Night Life - Bars either in pioneer square OR...if you want something hoppin' but a little more of a 'local' place, less touristy...Hit up the bars in Fremont. The Triangle Room is the best

print this and use it as your guys...You won't be dissapointed

OK, looks like SOMETHING'S going on that weekend - many of the hotel recommendations are booked Warwick Hotel Seattle - any good? Looks good on Orbitz, but I'd rather have recommendations. Crowne Plaza is another choice, but more $$$. Pioneer that Brett recommended also has some rooms.

I love the http://www.seatoskyrentals.com/ but they look further away from downtown and I'm trying not to get a car.

I used to stay at this joint every mardi gras when we would go downtown. Puts you in the middle of the party scene (about 20 bars) but getting to shopping/pike place/seattle center is quite the hike (or short cab ride) - Pioneer Square Hotel - (206) 340-1234

The inn at the market is awesome. Nice little getaway for the middle of the city and you are right by shopping and pike place.

You have 2 KILLER steak joints nearby, El Gaucho and The Met.

I just _barely_ prefer El Gaucho over the Met. I usually end up at the Met as it's a more casual affair. I've gone in with jeans and a baseball cap and not felt too outta place. El Gaucho's is certainly more of a "dress up" occasion. If you go to El Guacho's try the sirloin flaming sword, it's awesome. It's a big ass shishkabob alternating portabello mushrooms and beef sirloin. They bring it to your table, light some sauce on fire and basted it at the table. Very cool (and only about 35 bucks vs. 55 for the 26 oz porterhouse). All the steaks at the met are top notch, brave the 36oz Porterhouse if you dare, that thing about crippled me and i'm 330lbs .

I'm not a big seafood buff but The Waterfront and Oceanaire are 2 of my fiancee's favorites (plus you can get a steak if you want).

For a more affordable fare McCormick and Schmicks has AWESOME lunch prices before 3 and the food is good. Decent people watching too.

Probably my favorite place to go to overall would be The Icon Grill. I love this joint, swank atmosphere and you can go in jeans or in a suit. The food is awesome and ever changing and it won't cripple your wallet. I suggest dinner over lunch, but lunch is good too. It's right by Westlake Shopping center and Pacific Place shopping.

Ooh, also, a good combo (if you're into theater) would be the hotel vintage park (not too expensive), Tulio restaurant (downstairs of the hotel, amazing sweet potato gnocci), and then the 5th avenue theater (with in a block of the hotel). That's also in the heart of the shopping area and you could still hoof it to Pike's if you were so inclined.

If you have anything specific you're looking to do in town, let us (we seattle-ites) know. I'm sure we can find something to tickle your fancy.

check out Hotel Vintage Park then, not too many people know about it and it's close to shopping, though i'd say a good mile from pikes place. The Westin is right between shopping and pike place. Other than those 2, I haven't stayed anywhere else downtown.

I've heard The Roosevelt is pretty swank and i know it's right in the middle of shopping land.
