If it's real surfers with browsers then chances are that a referer will 'leak' sooner or later, so you'll find a domain name or two as a smoking gun.

If it's a hitbot using a bunch of open proxies then the source is not losing any money at all...

Its not exactly chinease "traffic" that's doing the ddos. The only thing you can do with traffic is make a bunch of iframes to different pages on the server and if thats the case it would be easy to block. Its most likely infected windows pcs. 70% of all botnets are from china,japan, and korea because those operating systems are the most exploitable and usually have open shares on 1025 and 445. Just thought i'd let you know before you get any ideas. Check out toplayer.com or google for "ddos protection" or setup 5-8 servers with a round robin dns.
