The immigrants that came to this country before the 70's were hardworking proud people who did there best to assiliate to the american way of life. There are 2 main types of immigrants.

1. Cheap workers (border jumpers etc)

They are the modern form of slaves. America needs them badly to keep wages low on jobs that americans wouldn't wanna do. If wages for sucky jobs went up, life would become much more expensive, and it would hurt the middle class pretty bad.
US exports would become more expensive too, which would make the already alarming trade deficit even worse.

2. Skilled workers (student who stay after going to college here, or people with college degrees coming to work)

Students spend shitload of money here, as they are not given any scholarships and they are required to pay the highest tuitions.
American students cost money to the goverment until they graduate from high school. Since you are accepting international students with high school degrees, thats shitload of savings right there.
These people are cream of the crop as far as brains go. IT industries need these people badly to stay on top of the world. Foreign workers are much better than outsourced ones, as they have to pay their taxes here.



Without immigration, US would go to shit, believe me. It really helps to keep the balance with all the military expenses and trade deficit going on.

What makes the US a superpower? Simple. Money. And lots of it. The US GDP is huge. About $11 trillion. Japan's is less than half of that. And what makes a country have a high GDP? A large population combined with aggressive capitalism and the correct social and economic institutions.
If the US population ceased to grow its economic growth rate would slow. The birthrate in many western countries is too low for population ro continue to grow. Many western european countries such as France are worried that their populations will stagnate and that their power relative to their regions and the rest of the world will thus decline. Meanwhile countries such as Australia, with the same worry, propose legislation to pay citizens for having more children in order to continue their growth. All the while, China heads toward superpower status because it has an immensely large population by which to multiply their small per capita GDP. More GDP = more tax revenue = more weapons - more power.

The United States, on the other hand, permits the immigration of 10 million or so new immigrants every decade. Without immigration, US growth would be considerably slower.

The UMNOVIC discusses how some scraps of Iraqi rockets have turned up in the Netherlands, they are not WMDs, although may well have been banned (i.e. as part of long range missiles). Not really the smoking gun the Bush administration wants.

That's what it is hoped you'll do. Every dollar in America is circulated about 8 times a year. When you spend $400 it transfers hands 8x. You didn't give your $400 back to the government. You gave it to American businesses who spend the money elsewhere - such as investments and hiring more people. If everyone were to just put their money under their mattress then the whole concept of tax cuts as economic stimulus would be dead.

The largest tax cuts in US history were all followed by economic expansions. These occured under Reagan, Kennedy, and Harding-Coolidge. Now Bush's tax cut combined with record low interest rates has created the fastest annual expansion in 23 years.

When you can combine tax cuts with low interest rates you know you are going to have a strong, robust economy. Yes, combined with increases in spending the cost is a higher debt. The alternative was probably near recession conditions and unemployment continuing to rise. The United States pulled out of its recession much faster than say, most of the EU, has. EU nations such as Germany and France break their self-imposed 3% deficit rule in order to try to stimulate their economy.

It's obvious no one else here has studied economics. This is an economics by dummies class if I've ever seen one.

Top 5% pay 53.25% of all income taxes (Down from 2000 figure: 56.47%). The top 10% pay 64.89% (Down from 2000 figure: 67.33%). The top 25% pay 82.9% (Down from 2000 figure: 84.01%). The top 50% pay 96.03% (Down from 2000 figure: 96.09%). The bottom 50%? They pay a paltry 3.97% of all income taxes. The top 1% is paying more than ten times the federal income taxes than the bottom 50%! And who earns what? The top 1% earns 17.53 (2000: 20.81%) of all income. The top 5% earns 31.99 (2000: 35.30%). The top 10% earns 43.11% (2000: 46.01%); the top 25% earns 65.23% (2000: 67.15%), and the top 50% earns 86.19% (2000: 87.01%) of all the income.
