I'm not an expert, but as far as I know the H1N1 flu Virus killed ~50 million people in 1918-1920, some suggestions even say numbers up to 90 million, that would be more than deaths than WWI+II caused.

And sientists fear than the the actual Bird Flu Virus (H5N1) might be able to infect humans very soon too, so be prepared for a new pandemic in the next few years.
