Actually, the use of maggots in medicine has been around for a long time. They use it to treat diabetic sores that become gangrenous. The larvae are lab-born and raised in order to ensure that they are sterile. They put the maggots into the sore, sew it shut, and a few days later they come out as flies and the sore is relieved of all dead/infected/diseased flesh. As maggots only eat DEAD flesh, it actually works well, and the healing that's realized with this therapy is absolutely astounding.

Oh, and as for this particular case of maggots, it's pretty gross. there was a boy who had them growing in his penis, too I believe
