ya get a lump in your breast or cervical cancer... then good luck on anyone wanting to cover you.. once its been diagnosed.... if you already have insurance. they cannot deny you. but if you do not ahve it.. they can deny you coverage....

I live in NY too Juicy, and yes NY is an extreme rip off in every sense, every sector, every facet of our lives.
I've been pricing homes and in many cases, the property taxes work out to almost as much as the mortgage payment. And I'm not talking about high-end homes or areas either. Damn rip off.
I even came across a 69k house while surfing and the taxes were 3700. Is that fucked or what?

Well I was referring to being able to walk into any health care facility and getting any procedure done and knowing your taxes helped pay for it.
I paid darn near 50% of my income last year to taxes, and I still dont have health care and now I'll have to pay more for the procedures I need done.
My roads are still potholed, my county fell so far short of money that they raised property taxes almost 40% in some areas, closed the 2 county run DMV offices, and raised the county sales tax by another .5%.
I'm just in a bad way

It amazes me the number of people in America who say they can't afford health insurance, but they drive nice cars, go out to eat, buy their Xboxes and games, etc. A recent survey showed that more than half the "uninsured" in America makes more than $50K a year. You can get a catastrophic policy for less than $100 a month. If you can't afford that, get a second job. Those of us with insurance are tired of paying higher rates to compensate for those who don't.
Like Greg pointed out, if you truly CAN'T afford medical care, the government pays for it.
And I'll keep my taxes like they are and pay for my OWN insurance and see the doctors I want to see when I want to see them, thankyouverymuch!
Anyone who thinks the government should take over health insurance in the US obviously isn't paying attention to the fact they've screwed up every other thing they've stuck their paws into

I agree with ya Peaches. I can afford it, at this time I just choose not to. I had that catastrophic policy thing for a while but it just seems like such a waste. (I know, only a waste until I need it) I live a pretty boring life...work at home and don't go out and party much. I am taking a chance and I realize it. nope Presby is a "private" hospital..
Parkland in downtown Dallas is a county hospital... but believe me.. you don't ever want that staff working on you.. under paid overworked and most scary.. under educated.. as most are fresh out of med school doing their internship.. the beauty of goverment funded health care...
some great doctors come from Canada.. down to the states.. b/c they can get paid for being great doctors ;)
and Tom if you truley paid 50% in income taxes.. (not sales tax or.. state/local tax)... you need to get a tax advisor or cpa...b/c you are not filing something correctly ;)
Brad actually pays our health insurance.. but I pay for my wife and kid.. actually just went up to about $645/month.. so i'm going to start shopping it around.. kid is the cheap one at $165/month.. wife just went up b/c she just turned 30... but it sure is nice to have the piece of mind that if anything happened... we are covered.Processing Partners http://www.processingpartners.comComment

greg, you're right. I just checked my papers (still sitting in my printer bin) and it wasnt 50%, it was closer to 25% to 30%. And I actually got a check back since I overestimated a penalty so they gave back like $500 or so.
One thing I got going is ZERO, and I mean ZERO debt. I live very frugally. I only just got cable TV service since they offered me over 100 channels for $29.95 a month with 2 free months. I deserved it after using my trusty antennas since the early 90's.
My cable internet is for business so I deduct it of course
It is amazing though, check out century21.com for example and check out some properties in NY state and look at the taxes, lol. Your eyes will bug out.

but that is a tangible.. b/c they cannot make anymore land in NY... and by having high property taxes.. they can hire better teachers.. higher pay.. makes for more competitive job markets..
you don't want the lowest paid person educating your kids...nor do you want the shittiest doctor removing a tumor from your colon...
