Is there any Canon or other program I can download so I can plug my camera directly to my laptop and save the images directly to the laptops hard drive? My CF is really fucked.

EOS Utility. You'll need to also install a driver for your camera.
It used to be called something like File Viewer Utility, so your original install disk may have that.
If you don't have your original disk then you're probably out of luck as Canon seems to require existing software be installed in order to upgrade. -
Yep, just use your EOS software and a firewire cable.
Heads up though, if your camera is throwing weird errors, fix the damn thing, don't hobble along until it dies in the ass in the middle of something important.
Incidentally, check you haven't mashed the CF card pins inside.Comment

Check adobe lightroom... I THINK (big THINK) you can do it into that... A guy I know shoots into his laptop at times and it seems to me he was using that but I might be mistaken.Comment

I shot this way (using the utility program), was too slow for me... it writes to the CF card faster than it does to the laptop.ICQ: 370 037 008Comment

well i think shooting tethered is usually too slow when working fast and trying to get alot of images out of a single modeling session. plus you will always have people tripping over the firewire, you will need repeaters if working with long lenses and it's a big hassle with lots of people in room. not convenient.
better to work with multiple CF cards and dump them into quick portable storage unit, rotating your cards and keep shooting. production will be way higher.

EOS utility does not work with vista, works fine on XP though but I don't have XP on the laptop I am with. Is there another program I can use? This is just a temporary solution until I can fix my CF reader.Comment

Be easier to buy another compact flash reader if that is your problem, they are super cheap. I have at least four between a pc card for my laptop, two built into newer Dell XPS desktops and a USB one hooked into my old P4. If the Compact Flash card is your problem, well that's also a no brainer, go buy another 1 Gb or 2 Gb CF card.Last edited by Jim_Gunn; 05-20-2007, 03:06 PM.Comment
