After watching the fight... I think someone has been bought off... I think Sturm should have been the winner.... and clearly had the fight in the bag, had a higher percentage of landed punches... just my opinion... I was rooting for the underdog... and I think the judges were bought off or chose De LaHoya just for his past reputation...
Can't Believe DeLaHoya won...

not many people would pay for sturm and hopkins
delahoya had to win that, but we all know sturm whipped his ass
delahoya was way out of his league and out of shape... guess he couldn't put on enough muscle and had to keep some fat on himself in order to make the weight112.020.756 -
Sturm didn't whip his ass at all. But it was a close fight and he did do a lot better than expected, I think it could have gone either way although i did suspect it migt be an upset.. Sturm lost points on lack of agression and running aways at the end of each round.Comment

yea i guess he didnt whip his ass, but he gave him a good beatingOriginally posted by bhutocracy

delahoya always throws in those flurrys at the end of the round to get his points up, sturm was just being a smart boxer by staying away... him and his team had delahoya completley figured out
i bet sturm could have knocked delahoya (he had him stunned a few times and seemed to wait) out but 'someone' made sure he didn't112.020.756Comment

yeah i am a delahoya fan but he clearly lost that fight and he even knew it if you listen to the interview afterwards. But with a big fight on the line between him and hopkins you knew the judges were going to give it to him.Comment

He won because if he lost the $12 million September fight with Hopkins would not have happened, pure and simple.Originally posted by Faith69

I guess you have never seen a De La Hoya fight before, so let me clue you in.Originally posted by bhutocracy

Oscer likes to wait until the 10 seconds left signal to pour it on, in an attempt to steal rounds. Too many judges are in the habit of thinking that 10 seconds makes a round, and he has won several fights using this method. He even tried to do it in the first two rounds of the fight with Sturm,
Sturm was smart to get out of his range for those 10 seconds. The fight was fixed, there is no way in hell that all 3 judges could have had the same score unless they were told how to score the rounds before the fight started. No one else came up with that score, yet all 3 of them did? Bullshit.
But hey, I have said it before and I will say it again, in Vegas if you go to the cards, the winner is anyone's guess.
Bring back the 15 round championship fight and you will eliminate a lot of the corruption in boxing today.Comment

When they announced "the judges have come to a unanimous decision" De La Hoya knew he lost. When they said, "new champion" he was as surprised as anyone in the place.Originally posted by fantasycontent

I hope that was a joke, Hopkins is going to fucking kill himComment

lol.. yes I have seen him fight before.. boxing is pretty much the only sport I'm into. There is a difference between nullifying his end of round flurries and turning your back on him to run away.Originally posted by baddog

Sturm was a lot better than expected.. not very exciting and pretty one dimensional.. but not bad at all.
I'm not going to argue that Oscar should have won the fight.. I don't think he did and certainly not unanimously.. If he fights like that Hopkins will absolutely demolish him. I can only assume it's the extra weight.. or a particular style mismatch with Sturm.Comment
