DevilPorn is right - always use hard links :-)
Of course then you have the overhead of managing the referers with your own scripts instead of using something that would just anlyze the web logs.
And yes, firewalls are common and block popups, etc... Welcome to the New World
What I'm talking about concerns the tracking of incoming surfers.
If you don't care to follow how much traffic your trades sent you, then move along, this thread is not for you, and your proposed solutions does not help the problem.
Multiple firewalls. Good thing too especially with Mcafee. I've noticed some sites will try to install a trojan when you visit but McAfee kills that shit right shot.
Sites with thumbs you can't right-click get shut out. Sites with URLs convoluted with re-direct shit getting shut out too. Seems like some ex-porn programmers are working for the people.
I guess people get tired of clicking a pic and going to who knows where instead of the site they wanted to go.

CjOverkill has this problem solved since one year ago. Just use the domain attached to the incomming page ot the unique trade id. This way they can come from "Referer blocked by northon" or just from nowhere and still being counted to the correct trade. Also it does not use cookies, so non cookie surfers (high privacy broser settings) will also be accounted properly.
I pointed to this problem more than a year ago when there was near 5% of traffic loss because of these issues. Now it seems like the percentage is higher (near 10% to 20% according to my estimations), and it will grow more in the future. In a couple of years you will see no one fuckin referer around.

That's the only valid solution I have found for now. Either www.you.com/?tradedomain.com and www.you.com/?trade_id work ok.
The other way is to have your trade to send you his IP logs and then compare them with the yours, but this is not a valid option in my opinion.
As your surfers lack the referer field you must emulate it in some way.
