eBay Agrees To Multimillion $ Settlement For PayPal Users '99 to '04

EBay Agrees To Settle PayPal Lawsuit

EBay Inc., the world's largest online auctioneer, agreed to pay $9.25 million to settle a 2002 class-action lawsuit by customers who alleged its PayPal e-mail payment service ignored complaints or didn't respond to inquiries in a timely fashion.

EBay, which bought PayPal after the lawsuit was filed, set aside funds last year to pay for a settlement, the San Jose, Calif.-based company said in a statement.

The settlement covers PayPal users who had accounts between Oct. 1, 1999, and Jan. 31, 2004, PayPal spokeswoman Amanda Pires said. She said it is unknown how many people are eligible for the payout, which will vary.

I don't think this has anything to do with porn payments.

in other words they got sued because their customer service sucked

Customer service still sucks to this day

I remember a friends account being locked back in the day with $2,000 in it, they made him fax a bunch of forms/emails and still did not get him anywhere. (he never seen the $ back)

I guess the only reason I use paypal so frequently is probably due to it allways being at hand, and used by many.

I had my account frozen, after a year I think, they cashed out whatever was left into my bank account. Think there's something in their terms now that after an account has been frozen for a period of time, they automatically cash out whatever's in it.

I've never got more than $2.50 from a class action lawsuit if this size. Not worth the effort to claim it.

Never had any problems with Paypal, but then again, I've threatened to go down to their office a plenty of times (5 minutes away from my house), and they always seem to co-operate with me then.
