4. It is not illegal to purchase thujone containing absinthe for personal use from outside the United States

My take on it is that it is OK to purchase ouside of the US and and have it imported.
Unless customs decides that it is not OK and they keep it.
The worst case looks to be that customs will keep it but doesn't look like there would be any legal problems with the attempt unlike getting caught with something like pot or coke.

If you really want the real thing, then "King of Spirits GOLD" is the only one I know about, se http://www.absintshop.com/products/absinth/kinggold/
The Absinthe sold over the counter in England, like Hills Absinthe is not the real ting. It do not contain more then 10 mg/l thujon. Original absinthe was 50-200 mg/l thujon. But as the fake is 65 to 75% alcohol you will get drunk, but not intoxicated on thujon.

I know some people that had it sent in from Amsterdam I think. At the time there was a certain way you could package it that customs wouldn't care too much about. I can't exactly remember how it was packaged.

If you look around there are do-it-yourself kits that you can buy and make your own. They're pretty cheap, and you don't have to worry about customs that way.
