XP Downloading Speed vs Win 2k

I know this isn't a computer tech forum but all of you smart asses should know something

Anyway... i was downloading this file from my server on my laptop that is running Windows XP connected to a LinkSYS router then to my cable modem. I was getting 45kb/s

Then I went to my desktop that is running Windows 2000 connected to the same LinkSYS router and the same file, from the same server 2 minutes later after trying it on XP, was getting 225kb/s.

Anyone know what's up? Is there something on XP that has to be tweaked with. I tried format c: but that just made me reinstall XP. Odd.

perhaps you could do some extended and more reliable investigation before assuming there's some weird bug in xp... just a thought though...

well same file, same server, no server load, 3Gbps network, same time of day, same connection, same router, two different systems xp vs 2k. One downloads fast one downloads slow. I think I got all the variables down.

the same thing has happened to me. I think it may be the built in firewall in XP it slows the download process.
Just my opinion not a fact.

I usually get slower speed with my laptop networkcard than from a desktop system.. could be that.

all variables but ONE... the most important one when doing reasonable research: try doing 20 of such downloads and if the huge difference is still there, then you've got an issue. don't base it all on one attempt. there can be a million reasons why the speed difference occured that one time.

I get that speed all the time (1MB/sec). It's called Optimum Online.

I download at 1MB/sec. My upstream is about 125KB/sec.

People on Bredsanbolaget (SP) are a lot faster.
