Your laptap makes the pearl earings that were stolen from my hotel room seem trivial in comparison. I wasn't staying at the Hyatt but I was staying at a decent hotel (with high speed) and the only person who had access to my room was the maids. Have you considered the possibility that the theif might have been one of the Hyatt staff?Comment

Thursday night. Gretchen was leaving National Net suite late night. very drunk guy got into elevator with laptop under his arm, got downstairws, needed help finding his room. she walked him over to suites behind tower-he kept saying he wanted to talk and was running laptop to his room and would be right down. He said he worked for MSNBC, dropped big name broadcasters and said he had a story for us. Dark hair, budgy, pale, white shirt, droopy heavy around middle section, nicely dressed, partial bald about 5'5-5'6 in height. She didn't continue conversation with him because he was too drunk and she was nervous but laptop latenight raised a flag to her. Maybe call hotel and see who registered under MSNBC...Comment

It wasn't anyone from the hotel, as there was a very small window from the time that Bill was using it and the time it was taken and it was all in the evening when there was no staff in the room. So....the hotel staff has been eliminated from the suspect list.

A few points for your consideration:
1.) The laptop, like most everything in our organization, is locked down pretty tight. I am not saying that a true hacker could not break the security on it, but usually thieves are not that bright. Yes, there is sensitive data on it....but good luck in getting to it.
2.) I don't really care about getting the laptop back at this point...I just care that I can prove who took it before I put a beat down on their ass.
3.) I will double what has already been offered for the reward by adding an additional $3500 in the reward pool via epassporte.

The problem is no one really knows who anyone is, I saw that at webmaster access. No checking id or proof of age . Very easy for scumbags to get in , also these are adult webmasters not girlscouts. High dollar items should be locked up and people have to be watched if you are having $3000 laptops around and not behind locked doors . Its sad but true.Comment

i'm so sorry to hear what happened Tony... there is nothing worse then a thief... you are such a sweetheart and you do not deserve to have anything stolen from you! I hope Gretchen found your guy and get what is yours back and a little extra piece of mind out of it...
I would think it would be pretty hard to sneak a laptop out of a party without someone seeing you unless you were just that good OR you had something to hide it in... LIKE a hand bag or some type of purse, a promotional t-shirt or towel, etc..

Tony....thanks for the invite. I just got home after being away from home for about 3 weeks so I am not sure if I will personally be able to attend, but we are planning to have a presence there. Thanks for putting it all together.
In response to your point, you are absolutely correct.....but it is not as easy as it sounds. I stay in Penthouse suites somewhere around 100 nights a year and I have never seen one with a locking bedroom so it is impossible to lock it up behind a lock and key. Historically when we did the Now Famous "NationalNet Hospitality Suites" we would not have anyone actually staying in the room....but in this case it was a last minute deal and we had no choices other than the one we chose or not doing the suite at all. Lastly, as far as knowing the people that come into the suite, do you know how many times I have heard someone *yell* at me "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM???", and I calmy have to say "nadda clue". The reality is that we can't be *too* strong on the door or we end up pissing off a potential customer or worse an exisiting customer. Allowing in 10 outsiders is worth more than pissing off a single customer.
