10 gig drving reading as 500mb

I have a 10 gig hard drive that is reading as 500mb...does anyone know what to do? I think this maybe the only time when the reply format c: is actually required.

seriously Krome..... what's the story behind the story?
      what OS?

most likely if you fdisk the thing and format, you should be fine.

do an fdisk and you'll see if you partitioned your hdd by mistake. I did this once and locked myself out of all but 2gigs of a 40gig drive.

You don't want to use NTFS unless your using NT....

during the setup process for 2K, it should've asked you if you wanted to use a FAT32 or NTFS file system..... I personally use NTFS on mine... it's what 2K was designed to use, but they had to make it compatible for upgraders too.... my guess is that's your problem right there.... you probly got a funky partition under a FAT32 system..... best bet, if you haven't put data on it yet, is to nuke the partition with fdisk, format, and reinstall 2K making sure to use NTFS.....

If you're exactly limited to 528MB, go into your BIOS and enable LBA Mode for this drive (then you will be able to extend or create a new partition with the space remaining). Without LBA mode, your BIOS can't access more than 528MB of your hd...

krome, i had the same issue, and this is what was wrong, I had win2k on the system with 2 partitions origianlly, and when i went into fdisk, it wouldnt let me delete the partitions with a 98 boot disk, since i was going to install 98se on the box, so, what i did was, go into win2k setup and when it asked me to create or delete partition i deleted everything and then formatted a large disk then installed 98se. the 1st time i did it, i got a 2 gig HD space available cause the rest of the disk was partitioned for ntfs, but after i did it with a 2k disk, then deleted everything, it gave me the full disk(10 gigs)
