Let's be real here. OK, he was a two term ex-President, although I didn't vote for him either time. He left no lasting legacy in the White House other than the fact he was quick witted, had a hard on for the former Soviet Union during the Cold War era and almost got assassinated by that Jodie Foster obsessed moron John Hinkley.
He was a freakin' actor, for Chissakes, who went from being president of the Screen Actor's Guild to Governor of California to President of the United States. Come to think of it, isn't there another actor who is Governor of California.

State funerals like this have been done for pretty much every president (sans Nixon in recent times). I guess because it's been 30 years since the last one, a large majority of Americans have forgotten or never experienced it and subsequently question it.
